Memorable Grammy award performances

The Grammy awards are one of the biggest and most celebrated award ceremonies of the music industry. This annually held awards ceremony features performances by notable artists of the music industry along with a host of popular awards which makes for a very popular television show every year. As one of the most prestigious stages for the music industry several worthwhile performances have adorned this platform. Ever since its inception in 1959, the Grammies have awarded outstanding achievement in the music industry and since then there have been quite a few memorable Grammy award performances, some of which include:

Eric Clapton in 1993 – Eric Clapton mesmerized the crowd with his performance of ‘Tears in Heaven’. He received immense support and adulation over this piece of music that he created in the grief of the loss of his four year old son in a tragic accident. the song got him not only millions of followers all over the world but also three Grammy awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. In 1993, at the award ceremony he rendered an emotional performance of the same song which swept the crowd of its feet.

Whitney Houston in 1989 – It was for the 1988 Summer Olympics that ‘One Moment in Time’ was recorded and became Whitney Houston’s tenth top 10 single in the United States. In the Grammy Awards of 1989 she gave an outstanding performance of the particular song for the opening of the ceremony that received immense appreciation all over.

Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond in 1980 – The legendary performance of Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond of their hit duet ‘You Don’t Bring Me Flowers’ left many eyes popping, since Barbra Streisand was known to be particularly shy about her public performances.

Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil Kim, Mya, Patti Labelle in 2002 – The powerhouse performance of ‘Lady Marmalade’ was rendered by the quartet, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil Kim and Mya, at the Grammy awards 2002. Towards the end of the performance all hell broke loose when Producer Missy Elliott and one of the members of the group that recorded the original version, Patti Labelle, in an impossibly huge red dress, joined them on stage to culminate this legendary performance.

Michael Jackson in 1988 – Another one of the most memorable Grammy award performances has to be the rendering of ‘Man in the Mirror’ by Michael Jackson. Climaxing with a gospel chorus, this performance did wonders to Michael Jackson’s already established stardom and fan following.

Ricky Martin in 1999 – With his performance of ‘The Cup of Life’ at the 1999 Grammy Awards, Ricky Martin set the stage on fire and was nothing short of a showstopper. Already a very popular performer in the Latin circles, Ricky Martins performance of ‘The Cup Of Life’, actually set the stage for his upcoming super hit ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’.

Chris Brown in 2007 – With acrobatic dancing capabilities and a charmingly sweet voice Chris Brown took the Grammy awards by surprise with his high energy performance of ‘Run It!’ in 2007.

Eminem and Elton John in 2001 – The performance of ‘Stan’ by the super-talented duo Eminem and Elton John is also counted as one of the memorable Grammy award performances in the history of the Grammies.

Mary J. Blige in 2002 – The performance of ‘No More Drama’, a song that pledged to end drama and pain in life, by Mary J. Blige in 2002 is arguably the most powerful performance rendered at the Grammies in a long time.
